Sunday Club Runs

TrainingCamp_FullColor

We have some very steady Sunday runs under the ” Dads Army ” section. These are slower shorter rides than the normal club Sunday runs and when we are having a Dads Army run, this will be detailed on THE VIKING NEWS page on this site. There will be a cafe stop and it’s more bacon butty/mug of tea than Latte and cake !!.

Normal Sunday club rides will take place throughout the year ( weather permitting ). Riders should meet 9 am in the Eight Jolly Brewers car park in Gainsborough. Please note that the club holds several time trials on Sundays and on a time trial day, there will be NO ride that day. For details on which Sundays these time trials take place, please see the RACING SCHEDULE page on this site.

Normal Sunday rides will be conducted at a ” decent ” pace which means no dawdling but NO heroes. Sunday rides are NOT races, if you want to race then save it for a time trial. Every Sunday ride will have an appointed ride leader and notice must be taken at all times of the ride leader. This particularly applies to the speed that the group are travelling. Target speed will be around 17 mph(weather permitting) and those attending should be capable of maintaining this sort of effort throughout the ride. The ride length will be usually between 30 & 40 miles and will usually involve a stop at some point at a cafe etc.Should it arise that someone is struggling, then you will NOT be left behind, at least one other member will volunteer to drop back and ride with you to the destination. Please bring appropriate seasonal clothing, food and drink as you see fit and a spare inner tube for any punctures . A mobile phone would also be a very good idea. These rides are open to members of Viking Velo cc and also open to non members who wish to sample the atmosphere/experience WITH A VIEW TO JOINING THE CLUB. Please note that under 18yrs riders, should either be accompanied by a parent/guardian or come with a signed letter of permission from a parent/guardian.

It should be noted that the British weather can sometimes interfere with the best made plans and training rides may be cancelled at very short notice if it is deemed by the club to not be safe. Regular Sunday riders will be informed of problems via text message and we will also try to let members know if we have to cancel a ride via our twitter page.
